October 25, 2015 – Masters Off-Season

Congrats to Invictus Masters Athlete Joe Catarineau for taking 3rd place in the 40-44 division at the Crush Games!
Congrats to Invictus Masters Athlete Joe Catarineau on his 3rd place finish in the 40-44 division at the Crush Games!

What a great cycle we just completed! We couldn’t be more pleased with the progress we saw with each of the members of our Masters community. There were so many new personal records accomplished, lots of great technique work on the Olympic lifts and lightbulbs going off with gymnastics movements. You all have done an amazing job not only following the program but also in building this community. The support and encouragement is so motivating and that comes from each and every one of you, so thank you!

So What’s Next?

We have asked for your feedback in the past and we have listened to what you have said. We are going to a month to month program so now you will have unlimited access to the program and won’t need to register every few months! We will continue to focus on movement patterns and progressions that we’ve seen to best improve the athleticism and skills of our masters athletes. Between now and the 2016 CrossFit Open, we will pay particular attention to the following things:

November – Continued emphasis on building foundational strength (specifically overhead strength) and aerobic capacity; focused work on foundational gymnastics skills to create a base from which to build volume upon going into the Open.

December – We will begin to shift from aerobic base building to more aerobic power and anaerobic lactic work – think slightly shorter, more intense conditioning intervals and sessions; we will continue our focus on gymnastics skill work and advance our strength development progressions.

January & February – This is the proper beginning of our Open Prep phase. With the understanding that every masters athlete will need to “peak” for the Open to put up the best possible scores, we will be moving your conditioning sessions in the direction of simulating the movements and energy systems you are likely to perform in the Open. We will emphasize strength maintenance, and advance the gymnastics progressions to help athletes fine tune gymnastics skills under duress.

What Can We Do Better To Help You?

We strongly value your opinion and would like to hear from you about your experience with the Masters Off Season 2.0. Your feedback is extremely important to us so we would greatly appreciate you taking a few minutes to shoot us an email at info@invictusathlete.com

and let us know what you think about our last cycle; what you liked, what you didn’t like and what you would love to see in the future. Your response will help us structure future programming for our Masters community.

Thank you again for allowing Invictus to be part of this incredible season with you. We’re honored to be able to help the amazing members of this community.

Now take this week to get some well needed rest and bask in your accomplishments! We will begin our next cycle on November 2nd, 2015.

Good timing for me to get sick I guess. Nothing like a 3 day headache to end a training cycle…
